Deepen Global Collaboration with the Church

Wycliffe Global Alliance leaders increasingly recognise the need for greater collaboration and partnership with local, regional and national churches. Some churches are already Alliance organisations; others serve as sending organisations, prayer supporters or translation partners. Consultations on the Church and Bible Translation will discuss missiological and biblical foundations of the church’s role in Bible translation and how best to serve together. These conversations could be the catalyst for greater collaboration in designing and implementing sustainable church- and community-based translation programmes.

Summary

Wycliffe Global Alliance leaders have increasingly recognised the need for greater collaboration and partnership with the church in global Bible translation movements. The Alliance is made up of different types of organisations and relates in different ways to different components of the church, such as: the Alliance as a global partner of the World Evangelical Alliance, church denominations as Alliance organisations, individuals in Alliance organizations sent by their local churches, local churches directly involved in Bible translation projects, individuals in Alliance organisations holding clerical roles in local churches and Alliance organisations relating to churches in their own countries and also abroad.

Previous consultations held by the Alliance on the church in Bible translation resulted in new direction regarding the relationship of the Alliance and the church. This new initiative will focus specifically on the implications of increasing direct church involvement in Bible translation. These consultations also will provide an opportunity to review and refine at least two Alliance Participation Streams: Church and Bible Translation Programmes.
